Tuggeranong Vikings BMX Club information for 2011

BMX race meetings are held on most Saturday’s for all licenced riders (the track is closed to the public). You can check race dates and events on our calendar at Tuggeranong.actbmx.com.au

Sign on will start from 12.30pm to 1.30pm (1.30pm – 2.30pm daylight savings). Be there on time or ring through your intention to race. If you do not sign on by the close of SIGN ON, then you will not be scored on the day. You will also be required to have a number plate on your bike or you will not be scored, particularly important for Championship Rounds.

For all race information and sign on
Contact the Club on 0407 269 001. Email: tugg-bmx@bigpond.com

Licenses or Green Cards must be shown at sign on or you will not be able to race. Any rider under the age of 18 years MUST have a parent or guardian to sign them on or they will not be permitted to race. Number plates and appropriate clothing must be worn whilst on the track.

This year we have some new racing formats……
Championship Rounds – there are 10 Championship rounds this 2011 season and will be scored to determine the final trophy presentation at the end of the season. You must nominate a class and race in that class only for the season to be eligible for qualification for a trophy. A minimum of 7 rounds must be raced to qualify you for the running for a trophy. If you race more than 7 rounds you can drop your worst rounds. Only the best 7 rounds scores will count for the Series.

Age Racing – Is age specific racing for riders to compete against riders their same age. This is not scored towards the end of season trophies, but an opportunity to race against children your own age.

Graded Racing – Is riders competing against other riders with similar ability and skill. This allows for more competitive racing between riders of different ages but similar ability. Like Age Racing this does not count towards end of season points but an opportunity to race other riders you may normally not race against.

As we are a bunch of volunteers keeping this sport afloat, it would be great if you can put your hand up and help out at the track when racing is on. The canteen is always looking for helpers and we need officials to hold the races, so don’t be shy, have a go and help out the club.

2011 Licence Fees :
Open Licence $120 (3 ride discount $90)
Club (only) Licence $100 (3 ride discount $70)
Sprocket Licence $100 (3 ride discount $70)
Day Licence $15 (per day)
Coach Membership $22 (annual)
Added Value MTB $36.00 (upgrade from MTB to BMX)

An Open Licence allows riders to race at ANY BMX track in Australia. It is also recognised at International events.

A Sprocket Licence is only issued to children aged between 4yrs – 7yrs and allows them to race at ANY BMX track in Australia.

A Club Licence only allows you to race at the Club you joined. If at any time you decide to upgrade to an Open Licence, you pay an additional $20 and will then have an Open Licence.

You can update from a Club Licence to an Open Licence for an additional $25 during the life of the Licence.

Another new Licence concept is the 3 ride permit which allows only new riders 3 Club events to see if they wish to continue with racing. If they decide to upgrade to a Club or Open Licence then there will be $30 taken from the total cost of the changeover to the Open or Club Licence for the first years licence. This is a great way to see if you want to commit to the fun of BMX Racing.

When signing on as a NEW Licenced rider, you must complete the BMXA document, supply a birth certificate (or the original, we can copy) and the licence fee. You will be issued with a green slip which you will need at each meeting until your Licence arrives at your postal/residential address. The Licences will be posted by BMXA. See Registrar at sign on for further information.

In 2011 the Sign On fee will remain at $5.00 per rider. 3 or more riders in a Family cost a maximum of $10.00 in total.

At no time are Remote Control Cars allowed on the BMX track. Our volunteers spend copious amount of time repairing the track so it is safe for our members to ride/race. As remote control cars cause damage to track surface they are banned from the track.

The BMX track is affiliated with the Vikings group but not owned or run by the Vikings Group. It is a closed track unless we have an event running of which you would need to be a Licenced rider to enter the event.

Our members Include:

Sports Star of the year for 2011 and Sports women of the year “Caroline Buchanan”.

Our boys have been doing well at interstate competition, but our girls have raced extremely well in 2010. Maybe it will be the boys turn in 2011.

We are a growing sport and more so with the introduction of BMX into the Olympics. We now have a long awaited State Coaching Director who has taken our sport under his wing to develop local talent to complete at an elite level. We start from the grass roots up to over 30′s.

Retro racing for all the oldies and x BMXers this is also a growing event within the BMX circuit with the introduction of this event to the Australian Titles for 2011 and beyond. Much like the Masters Games held each year. So, if you have an old pre 1986 BMX bike bring it out of the shed, dust off the cob webs, and give us a call. We will get you started and on your way to becoming young again.
