Vikings Lawn Bowls Life Members find a home on the green at Town Centre Vikings

Recently we hosted a dedication of the first Green at Town Centre Vikings to the Life Members of both Vikings Lawn Bowls Clubs.

The sign proudly stands above the green at the Club, acknowledging the contribution made to Lawn Bowls in the Tuggeranong Valley by their Life Members.

Mrs Ros Waters (pictured) has been on the Committee for 15 years, for the past 10 in the position of Treasurer.  “I’d been driving past the Greens as they were being built and finally saw people having a roll, I came down the following Tuesday and have been a member ever since”. Mrs Waters believes it is important for communities to promote sports like Lawn Bowls because they provide a strong sense of social inclusion for so many.

“It keeps me active, it keeps everyone here active. We all come down because we enjoy the sport but we enjoy each other’s company just as much”.

Vikings Bowls Club President, Lynne Signor agrees. “My husband suggested I joined the Bowls club after we moved to Canberra from Griffith.  He knew I’d appreciate the friendships and would enjoy having something to do. Well, he was right!  I’m now honoured to be President. There’s a lot to do here and we have some great people doing it”.

The Bowling Greens are available not only to members of the Tuggeranong Vikings Lawn Bowls Club and the Vikings Bowls Club but also to the members of the public or corporate organisations to come down and have a roll.  They extend a warm welcome to both local residents and visitors from other accredited bowling clubs to join us for a social game of bowls.

“Both clubs, the Tuggeranong Vikings Lawn Bowls Club and the Vikings Bowls Club share three international-sized grass bowling greens where we offer various weekly games.  We have bowls for hire and can arrange some great social barefoot bowls competitions – you never know, you might come down for a beer and end up on our Life Members Board” said Mrs Signor.
