Last week Vikings Group held its 42nd Annual General Meeting.

2020 has been unprecedented in many ways. COVID-19 will have a lasting effect on many lives, communities and businesses. As a Group, Vikings posted its largest loss in its 40-year history. The Group finished the year in a very strong financial position but like most businesses will approach the future with an element of caution as we begin to rebuild. One of the most important parts of rebuilding is getting our staff back to work. We closed our doors on the 23 March with a team of 257. At the time of writing, we have re-employed 237 team members and are now actively recruiting to support our Member services.

The next 12 to 24 months are expected to be difficult and as a business, we continue to look at how we safeguard our future. For now, it is all about staying true to our core which is supporting and fostering grassroots sport in the Valley, providing sporting and hospitality facilities to our Members and supporting the community that supports us.

At the AGM Mr David Assenheim stood down after six years as Group President. We would like to thank David for his years of services, in particular for leading the business and supporting the staff during its most uncertain time. David helped the organisation achieve great things as President, strengthening the financial position of the Vikings Group while never losing sight of the core values and purpose of the Club. David will remain on the Board as a Director.

At the meeting, Mr Tim Hutchinson was voted in as next Group President. We welcome Tim into the role and look forward to working with him to achieve great things for the Vikings family.
