Vikings Group Supporting Lifeline Northern Rivers Flood Appeal

Since our beginning, Vikings Group has provided assistance of more than $41 million dollars to our community, and we are proud of our long association with Lifeline Canberra.

We knew that our community’s heart was breaking for those living in the Northern Rivers, and we wanted to get behind Lifeline.

Vikings Group matched dollar-for-dollar the donations that our members made to Lifeline in the Northern Rivers Flood Appeal.

Together we donated $15,000

Lifeline Northern Rivers services New England Northwest, Hunter and Central Coast, all areas which have been devastated by the floods. The floods have severely impacted Lifeline Northern Rivers and their ability to provide support to their local community during a time when the community are most fragile. 

Lismore Council has turned to Lifeline NR to become the main distribution centre for second-hand items for the town’s recovery. Their staff, volunteers and members of the community have worked hard to have the hub up and running so they can quickly get newly donated goods out into the community.  Lifeline Northern Rivers runs 5 Op Shops in the area, all of which have been impacted by the floods. These stores will be out of action for months resulting in no income to support their much-needed services.

The value of their loss is still being calculated and includes vehicles to access remote communities and transport donations. The Lifeline call centre and offices were destroyed and have resulted in the Lismore community losing an integral community asset. In addition to this loss, their operating costs are building – it is currently costing them $11,000 per week just to do what they do best - support their local community.

Our donation, will help Lifeline answer as many calls as possible to the 13 11 14 national crisis line from those affected by the floods and help Lifeline’s Lismore-based team provide effective on-the-ground crisis support in the coming months and years as the Northern Rivers rebuilds.

On top of droughts, COVID and other hardships, it is understandable that many are at their lowest point. Our donation will ensure that those in the Northern Rivers do not have to face their darkest moments alone.
