Charity of the Year 17/18: OzHarvest
A Year in Review
What a year it has been with OzHarvest Canberra, who were the Vikings Group Charity of the Year partner for 2017/2018. The Vikings Group are thrilled to announce that our target was reached and exceeded with over $63,000 being raised for OzHarvest Canberra.
During a morning tea celebration and farewell, a cheque was presented by Anthony Hill (Vikings Group, CEO) to Dave Burnet (OzHarvest, ACT and Territories Manager), who has been a driving force behind this wonderful partnership.
“This was an important partnership for us, we always try to be conscious of waste and felt we could do more to support people in our community who might not always have regular meals,” Anthony said.
OzHarvest ACT and Territories Manager, Dave Burnet is grateful for all the support over the last 12 months.
To equate what $63,000 will do for OzHarvest Canberra?
“This donation will help us deliver over 120,000 meals! We are very grateful for Vikings’ support and its contribution to the Canberra community,” Dave said.
The Vikings Group managed a range of fundraising initiatives, including an initial $12,000 donation, Yoga on the Greens, a Vikings Rugby Club Charity Day, an OzHarvest Trivia Night and the OzHarvest Dollar Ball throughout the year.
This donation will help us deliver over 120,000 meals! We are very grateful for Vikings’ support and its contribution to the Canberra community
The Vikings Group must also acknowledge the fantastic support received from our Members. Over the course of the year, $10,000 of the total was derived from Member donations in our Clubs which is truly amazing. Thank you to all our Members who contributed to OzHarvest Canberra and more importantly, our Charity of the Year program.
OzHarvest Canberra supports 65 Charities in Canberra, Queanbeyan and the Yass region with approximately 40 tonnes of food being rescued each month by the OzHarvest Canberra team.

On Saturday 23 June 2018, the much anticipated OzHarvest Dollar Ball took place at Lanyon Vikings, which was a night full of celebration and also the final opportunity for Vikings Group to fundraise for OzHarvest Canberra. Collectively over the night across the Champagne Bar, Silent Auction, Raffles and other fundraising activities, a total of $26,100 was raised.
