Charity of the Year 2018/19: Marymead
We are so excited to work with this deserving charity for the next 12 months. The partnership will enable Marymead the ability to harness the fundraising power of the Vikings Group. Vikings have pledged a donation with the commitment to fundraise and promote the Charity of the Year, extending to a variety of activities and public relation events.
Marymead is a well-respected, not-for-profit organisation servicing the ACT and southern and western regional areas of NSW. They have been delivering a range of high quality, family support services to children, young people and their families since 1967.
With offices in Canberra at Yarralumla and Watson, and in NSW at Goulburn, Moruya and Wagga Wagga, Marymead’s array of programs and services include child and family counselling, early intervention programs, Permanency Program (out of home care), post separation support, the Autism Centre, parent education groups, family and mental health support programs and contact and changeover services for separated parents in significant conflict.
Marymead also offers innovative, person-centred support services for people with disabilities and their families. These services may be purchased through funds received under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and include short term accommodation, after-school care and school holiday programs, skills development, recreation groups and in-home support.
The partnership between Vikings Group and Marymead will assist in building new Care Cottages, providing hope and change for kids and families in need at times of crisis. Vikings Group also aim to educate and raise awareness about the new Care Cottages and Marymead's programs.
Marymead provides an invaluable service to the community, which we want to recognise and support. Family values and cohesiveness are at the heart of Vikings Group, and we look forward to building a strong partnership with Marymead.
Vikings Group recognise our responsibility to support non-for-profit organisations in the community and aim to assist organisations whose values align with our core beliefs, and those of our Members and Staff. The Official Launch
On 2 August 2018, the Vikings Group welcomed Marymead through the doors to launch our Charity of the Year partnership for 2018/2019. A gathering of over 50 guests including Marymead Auxiliary Members and Corporate Partners attended the launch at Brick & Basil, Erindale Vikings to officially kick-off proceedings.
The major announcement at the launch was Vikings Group pledging to raise $100,000 for Marymead which is the largest fundraising goal ever set for a single charity by the Vikings Group.
The money raised will go towards building Marymead’s new Care Cottages—as part of its Buy a Brick campaign—to provide much needed short-term accommodation for children and families in the ACT and surrounding region.
Marymead’s CEO, Camilla Rowland believes the partnership between Marymead and Vikings Group will make an exceptional difference to its Care Cottage fundraising initiative and to the families this will support.
“Marymead provides an invaluable service to the community, which we want to recognise and support. Family values and cohesiveness are at the heart of Vikings Group, and we look forward to building a strong partnership with Marymead,” Vikings Group, CEO Anthony Hill says.
Community members can get involved in the Buy a Brick campaign by visiting the Marymead website Marymead.org.au and purchasing a brick. Alternatively, forms are available at Club Receptions to fill out or you can purchase a brick on the spot at your Club Reception. A brick costs $100 and you will receive name recognition of your donation on the acknowledgment wall at the site of the new Care Cottages once they are built.
